Where to use them

• Car park entrances: single sign at each pedestrian entry to indicate icy surface conditions
• Building entrances: by external steps, ramps, and pathways approaching main entries
• Walkway crossings: at junctions between cleared and not-yet-cleared sections of footpath
• Loading bays and yards: at the boundary of cleared work areas
• Staircases (external): top and bottom of all external stairs during freeze conditions

Material choice

For seasonal use only: self-adhesive vinyl is fine and the lowest-cost option. For multi-year use: rigid PVC. For permanent installation in known icy areas: aluminium composite (Dibond) for long external life.

Workplace duty of care

Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, employers and building operators have a duty to keep external routes safe and to warn users where hazards cannot be eliminated. Visible ice warning signage is part of standard winter safety management.
